At the heart of semiconductor
manufacturing is lithography, the process
of printing features on the chip. And at the
core of lithography is light.

xLight is building the world’s most
powerful lasers to transform how light is
delivered to fabs – moving from tool-based
light sources to a utility-scale source with
distributed delivery.

This paradigm change fundamentally
reshapes how semiconductors are made –
making them better, faster, and cheaper.

HOW WE BUILD

To build the world's most powerful lasers, we leverage particle accelerator technology that has been mastered and perfected over decades in the U.S. National Labs.

A particle accelerator is a device that accelerates charged particles, such as electrons or protons, to very high speeds using radiofrequency (RF) and magnetic fields. These accelerated particles can then be used for various purposes, including scientific research, medical treatments, and industrial applications.

FELs use electrons from a particle accelerator and pass them through undulators with a periodic magnetic field to generate coherent, high-intensity light beams.

FELs are the core of xLight's system because of their ability to produce intense, tunable beams of light across a wide range of wavelengths.

What xLight Unlocks

xLight enables fabs to print more, better, and cheaper chips, all while putting less strain on the grid.

xLight systems dramatically improve fab performance, as much as doubling wafer throughput, while driving down EUV costs. These systems can deliver those capabilities, all while requiring less energy.

We do so by fundamentally changing how light is delivered to the fab. Rather than a built-in source at every lithography tool, xLight's systems — built just outside the fab — deliver light as a utility, the same way fabs purchase energy or process gasses.

In the short term, that means significantly better fab economics. In the long term, xLight systems will drive innovation in lithography technology. The light produced by our system is tunable, which enables very precise wavelengths, down to 2nm — opening a massive opportunity for innovation with our tunable light.
